NEW Academy of Science and Art

379 South Loma Drive
Los Angeles, CA 90017

Housed among three of New Economics for Women’s affordable housing developments, and in our Prosperity Center commercial development, NEW Academy of Science and Arts (NASA) is our local charter school partner. NASA opened in 2003 on NEW’s campus and since then has been providing high-quality public education for students grades K-5. NEW Academy is its independent nonprofit operator and was a spin-off of New Economics for Women’s Board.

The mission of NEW Academy is to create a child-centered environment where students are able to work cooperatively, become self-directed, think critically, develop self-esteem and self-assurance, and have respect for cultural diversity.

NEW Academy has three specific performance objectives:

  1. To promote student progress in academic and artistic achievement
  2. To cultivate social and community ethics and values in each student’s character development, with parental participation
  3. To implement the most appropriate curriculum for every child after the initial assessment
