NEW’s Advocacy For Under-Resourced Families

NEW’s FamilySource Center team led by Jason Yancey and Luis Gomez were invited by our community partner Golden State Opportunity to attend “A Community Action Day” on June 7 at the Sacramento Capitol together with other influential local community organizations.  The goal was to schedule meetings with legislators’ offices to advocate for the following bills:

  • AB 1128 (Asm Miguel Santiago): Expanding Young Child Tax Credit (YCTC) to include ages 6-18 and 19-23 (who are students) and children of any age with permanent and total disabilities
  • AB 1498 (Asm Mike Gipson): Raising the minimum CalEITC credit to $300. Continued funding for year-round Free Tax Prep Services, education and outreach
  • ACA 10: Resolution adding to the CA constitution to declare housing as a fundamental human right (co-sponsor with ACLU).  The team was able to provide a “Me Too” during this hearing.
  • $18/hour minimum wage

The team was also able to meet with Senator Durazo, Senator Dahle, Assemblymember Jesse Gabriel, and Assemblymember Chris Holden to ask and thank them for their support for the bills.
