Senior Accountant

Position Summary

The Senior Accountant assists with financial planning and budgeting processes, analyzing financial statements and reports, developing financial models, preparing projections, and performing research and analysis as may be required by leadership. As accounting manager, you will also be responsible for maintaining accuracy and integrity of financial records and assisting with monthly closing processes. As an ambassador for the organization, this person is also responsible for actively supporting the overall mission and vision of NEW.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Offers professional support, supervision, coaching and direction to the organization’s accounting team
  • Demonstrates cultural competence and humility and adaptability while handling high-pressure and difficult situations
  • Displays effective leadership, strong initiative and high motivation
  • Collaborates with NEW’s Leadership team on NEW’s Strategic Plan and other initiatives in support of the organization’s growth and impact
  • Builds, maintains and works cooperatively with multiple agencies and diverse partners
  • Oversee and manage the general accounting functions, including, but not limited to accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and taxes.
  • Help with quarterly and year-end financial audit activities and A-133 audit requirements.
  • Assess current practices and procedures and make recommendations for improvements.
  • Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements to ensure accuracy and completeness.
  • Perform ad hoc analysis and projects as requested.
  • Supervise and/or manage general ledger accounting functions.
  • Develop staff by managing performance, setting goals, providing ongoing training, and maintaining strong employee relationships.
  • Work with external auditors to ensure correct and timely closing and reporting at year-end.
  • Preparing and recording financial transactions and journal entries
  • Preparing and reviewing reconciliations.
  • Supporting the accounting department with all aspects of the general ledger.
  • Preparing and consolidating financial statements and reports.
  • Assist in processing and recording accounts payable, and analysis of financial impact.
  • Assist in processing and recording accounts receivable, and analysis of financial impact.
  • Assist in processing and recording payroll, and analysis of financial impact.
  • Assisting with the development and evaluation of budgets and preparing budgets to actual reports.
  • Supporting the formulation and implementation of control systems within the organization.
  • Ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory standards.
  • Following changes in regulations and compiling reports regarding compliance issues, standards, and accounting practices.
  • Assist with other initiatives as requested by the supervisor.
  • Ability to present financial information to a non-financial audience.

Qualifications and Experience

Must have at least 4 years of General Ledger and financial planning experience.

Education

  • A bachelor’s degree in business, economics, finance, accounting, or a related major or equivalent professional experience is required.
  • Certified public accountants (CPA) or certified financial analysts (CFA) are preferred. 3. Sage Intacct experience preferred.

Additional Requirements

  • Must have access to reliable transportation provide proof of current California driver’s license, acceptable driving record (current DMV H6 printout), and current liability auto insurance
  • Fingerprinting and TB Clearance
  • Flexible with working hours, including evenings and weekend
